Week 5 Project Objectives: (1) Demonstrate your knowledge of Microsoft Access by importing data from an external table and creating objects (queries, forms, and reports) in a database. (2) Evaluate the results of your finished database by answering (4) questions.
(1) Week 5 Project Database Information: You work for a newly opened pet grooming business in Milledgeville, Georgia. The owner knows you’ve taken a few computer courses at Georgia Military College and she would like for you to create a database of the groomers and pets groomed.
Create a new database and import the tables (Groomers and Pets from the following database: Week 5 Project Extra Tables) into your database. HINT: Remember to add a primary key to both tables.
After you import the tables into your new database, you will create the following objects:
(2) Queries that are logical and make sense.
Queries must be different types.
1 query needs to have joined tables (see AC 2-29).
1 query needs to have a calculated field that is logical (see AC 2-43).
(2) Forms that are organized, formatted properly, and include a title.
1 form needs to be created for a table.
1 form needs to be created for a query with joined tables.
(2) Reports that are organized, formatted properly, and include a title.
1 report needs to be created for a table.
1 report needs to be created for the query with joined tables.
Both reports need to have a column total that is logical.
NOTE: If you would like to create additional tables with more detailed information (appointment times, costs, etc.), please do so. If you would like to create additional queries, forms, or reports, please do so. Do whatever you need to do in order to create the database and make it professional / user-friendly. Make sure you meet the minimum requirements. Remember that the owner and the other groomers will be using the database too! HINT: The more information you add to the database, the more likely it is that it will be helpful to the owner and the other groomers.
(2) Week 5 Project Written Information: When you finish creating the workbook, type up the answer to EACH of the following questions in a minimum of one paragraph (3-5 sentences). You are required to use Microsoft Word. There is no starter document with a required format but please make it professional.
Did you find it difficult to create objects (forms, queries, reports) from imported data? Explain.
What types of queries did you use and what questions did the queries help the owner or the other groomers answer?
What types of reports did you generate and why? Why did you create the total for the report?
Do you think the owner would give you a raise based upon your completed database? Be realistic!
This is an academic assignment, so no “text-talk,” no conversational tone, and ABOVE ALL OTHER THINGS… don’t plagiarize!! Lastly, spell-check and proofread your work! Failure to follow these steps will negatively impact your grade.
