Imperialism surged by the end of the 19th century. This was called ‘new imperialism’ since countries wanted to rule territory directly, rather than just control trade with them. Discuss how developments in social and intellectual life, imperial expansion, and politics would produce an atmosphere that would lead to wars by the turn of the century, and eventually to World War I. You should concentrate on Prussia and how the unification of Germany took place, and the entrance of the US into our 1st war on foreign soil.
