Assignment Task

The Project Management Foundations in Practice online short course runs over 7 weeks, covering 6 learning modules. Participants must complete a final overall course assignment in the seventh week of the course. This document provides the assignment questions, overall brief, and the marking grid for the assignment.

Questions

The overall course assignment contains 6 questions. These questions are structured around the modules, with assignment question 1 related to the learning from Module 1, assignment question 2 related to the learning from Module 2, and so forth. You can only start working on Assignment Question 6 at the end of the course (end of Module 6), as it relates to the learning from Module 6.

You can start working on the questions as early as the end of week 1, although the duration of week has been allocated to the course assignment. We recommend that you do foundational research and draft work on your questions as soon as possible. This way, you can apply learning immediately and prepare yourself for the challenging task of writing your overall course assignment during.

Real Workplace Scenario

The assignment requires practical application of learning to a workplace scenario. We encourage you to make the assignment as accurate and relevant as possible to your work context and select an actual project (completed, current, or future) in your workplace. However, we respect that projects provide a competitive advantage to organizations, and privacy rights and confidentiality rules are at play. Here is how we would like you to approach this:

• We recommend using pseudonyms to protect the rights and privacy of your organization, department, and team members. A pseudonym is a replacement name: for instance, Company XYZ instead of the actual company name, the A-Team instead of your team/department name, or fake names like Peter or Susan instead of the real names of your colleagues. Please do not quote anyone directly or take photos of others at work.
• Do not compromise your company`s confidentiality: Do not submit your assignment on company letterheads or include official company documents or other confidential reports from your organization in the assignment.
• Please simplify/adjust the details of the project for this assignment. A real workplace scenario like a large, complex infrastructure project would need to be broken down into a smaller, more manageable project for the assignment. You would also need to change or adjust the actual costs or financial statements for your assignment

Fictitious Workplace Scenario

• We realize that many of our course participants may not have access to or experience in the project environment at work. Some participants may be students without the necessary resources to draw on for an organizational workplace project.
• Draw on a workplace you have been exposed to, even if not in a professional project environment. For example, if you are a waiter at a restaurant, you could create your fictitious workplace scenario based on that restaurant, or if you’re a receptionist in a company, you could base your workplace scenario on the reception area.
• The most straightforward project to use in a fictitious scenario is a remodeling, interior design, or painting project. In the previous example, a project to paint the restaurant interior or redecorate the reception area can provide all the details required for a fictitious workplace scenario project.
• You will need expert insight and input to enrich your fictitious project. We recommend contacting managers or experienced employees to learn more about what such a project could entail and what details you could include. As per the earlier example, the restaurant manager may be able to share some details about a recent painting project, or an experienced receptionist may be able to add value to your fictitious reception decoration project.
• Ensure that faculty knows the fictitious workplace scenario details as you answer the assignment questions.

Introduction to Workplace Scenario Business Case

TechSolutions Inc. is a top-rated technology company devoted to delivering cutting-edge IT solutions to businesses from different sectors of the economy. The organizational strategy of TechSolutions, which is to sustain the company`s competitiveness and address the dynamically changing market needs, assessed the necessity of improving the IT infrastructure. The goal is to modernize the company`s network, increase cybersecurity measures, and use cloud-based technologies for operation efficiency and expandability.

The rationale for Project Solution

The project is identified as required because IT infrastructure is crucial to conducting all operations that sustain the TechSolutions company and the plans to grow further. As the infrastructure is progressing and practically unsustainable and subject to cybersecurity problems, fundamental reform is necessary to reduce risks, protect data confidentiality, and keep the business running. On the other hand, the use of cloud technology will help TechSolutions minimize unnecessary resource utilization, which will, in return, enable the "distance" streamlining of processes and the enhancement of cooperation across geographical separations.

Business Case Parameters

The business case specifies that a generous portion of the total amount will be assigned to the IT infrastructure upgrade project, explicitly outlining the role of this initiative for TechSolutions` long-term prosperity. Other constraints include the set timetable for rollout, during which business functions should not be interrupted arbitrarily (Khan et al.). The conclusions of the business case study reflect the feasibility of effective cybersecurity solutions, easy data management procedures, and the seamless integration of cloud services. The deliverables are primarily considered as a modernized network infrastructure, an enhanced cybersecurity framework, and an optimized cloud-based solution, which is our objective.
