Resume Preparation:

Prepare your current, factual resume, reflecting your actual skills, experiences, and education. This resume will be used in Week 2 to place you into groups. Ensure it is formatted simply and clearly – avoid fancy designs or distracting elements. Hiring managers spend only a few seconds on each resume, so it’s crucial to make it easy for them to find the information they need. Refer to Indeed’s resume guide for tips on resume preparation.

Job Market Research:

Search for job opportunities using the keywords ‘Web Developer,’ ‘Front-End Developer,’ ‘Back-End Developer,’ ‘Full-Stack Developer,’ ‘Web Designer,’ and ‘UX/UI Designer.’ You can also add ‘Entry Level’ to find opportunities suitable for beginners. Note down the frequency of certain skills in these job descriptions – this will help you identify the most in-demand skills in the current job market.

Reflection Report:

In a concise report of no more than 3-4 paragraphs, reflect on your findings from the job market research. Use bullet points to clearly identify the gaps between your current skills (as reflected in your resume) and the skills needed for your desired jobs. The report should address the following points:

• Summarize what you learned from researching the jobs, especially any surprises or aspects that will significantly affect your career planning.
• Clearly identify the skill gaps between your current abilities and the requirements of your desired jobs.
• Reflect on how this course, and your future studies, can help you bridge those gaps.
• Discuss your career goals and how the skills from this course align with these goals.
