What is the major use of Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle?

• It enables the researcher to learn from experience. This is done by helping the people to learn from their mistakes
• In a lot of situations, it has given me clarity of thought to make sense of the situations and the reasons behind certain instances. 
• It enables the students to have a greater knowledge of the subject that they are studying and provides various insights for the improvement of the situation (El, 2019)

Demonstration of Gibbs’ Reflective cycle through personal example

Description – What Happened?

• I have a friend named Abigail, whose sister was going through a lot of bullying in school. The bullying started growing worse she was beginning to show fear and anxiety when any topic regarding school came up.

Feelings- My thoughts and feelings

• As a student, I began to immediately think of the social and cultural reasons for the bullying that had occurred here.
•  I started to realize that there are certain aspects like an ideal body type or weight that have been idealized in society
• Any deviations from the norm of the society is frowned upon.

Here, I understood that Abigail’s sister was bullied because she could not conform to the norms of society regarding unrealistic beauty standards set by the society.

Emotionally, I felt deeply disappointed by the fact that a sister of my closest friend was facing bullying which was emotionally draining.

Evaluation- Negative and positive aspects of the situation

• The negative aspects of the situation include the emotional struggles faced by Abigail’s sister. She would have felt emotionally drained and disheartened due to the treatment of her schoolmates.
• There was also a point of time, where she could not open up to anybody regarding her situation.
• However, I also feel that understanding and recognition of such incidents can lead to the prevention of bullying in the future.
• There will be a lot of other students who feel helpless and demotivated to continue their education due to the problem of bullying (Shute, 2021).
• Developing a solution for the case of Abigail’s sister can also help in finding a solution to this larger social issue.
• I feel it is crucial to understand the positive and negative aspects of the situation, to derive an optimum solution to the problem.

Analysis – What sense do I derive from the situation

• After thinking for a while about the issue, I realized that bullying is not just an issue that concerns Abigail and her sister
• It is a mere reflection of our attitudes and values as a society. I had advised Abigail to talk to her sister on an everyday basis to make her feel more comfortable to open up.
• I consider family support as the most crucial aspect of a situation (Gunnell, 2018).
• The social support can help her to understand that bullying is a very common phenomenon and there are ways through which it can be dealt with.
• I also explained to Abigail that we need to pressure the school authorities to take immediate action on the same.
• The students who are identified in the group of Bullies need to be addressed and punished accordingly

Conclusion – Was there anything left to be done on my part

• I feel like if I could have known the issue a little earlier, I would have been able to take preventive measures before the bullying had gotten worse.
• I also felt like I could have intervened with Abigail’s parents and to know their stance on the issue.
• I could also have made them aware of how to handle this sensitive situation if she was not willing to open up
• After a thorough analysis of the issue, I can say that the problem of bullying faced by Abigail’s sister is a mere reflection of our values and norms as a society
• Addressing these issues with sensitivity is essential to avoid the problems caused due to bullying.
