Assignment Task 

Purpose

This activity allows you to find out more about contemporary work on risk analysis as reported in refereed articles in the international journal, Risk Analysis. This journal covers a broad range of topics, from conceptual discussions of risk definitions, processes for risk management, social as well as technical models of risk, risk perception, communication as well as mathematical and rational risk methods. This journal also has a wide variety of application domains, including health, engineering, climate, environmental, power and other systems.

Preparation

1. Conduct this activity in your assignment group. Remember assignment groups should be confirmed by 3 February. Please select your groups via the “group self-selection” on Myplace.

2. Think about what types of topics your group are most interested in finding more about as this will help you select a paper to review.

3. Select any article from those published in Risk Analysis – you should be able to access papers in this journal by following the “ejournal browse” link from the Strathclyde library webpage.

4. Critically review your selected paper, including summarizing the motivation for the work and the key messages, evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the paper, and identifying 2-3 learning points that from your perspective are useful issues to “take away”.

5. Prepare a 5 minute powerpoint presentation on your review. We suggest no more than 5 slides, say:
   1. your group number, paper title, authors and date of publication
   2. paper motivation
   3. key messages
   4. strengths and weaknesses
   5. your learning points
