Why have you chosen this focus? How does it relate to your experience, professional role or interests?

As a Sri Lankan teacher, I have encountered numerous incidents of child abuse including domestic violence and gender-based violence within my classroom life. The personal experiences were led into interventions to facilitate such children to recover and to continue the education. These encounters compelled the writer to explore the critical issues related to supporting children and young people in Sri Lanka who have experienced abuse and identification of available psycho-social support systems for the children of Sri Lanka and discuss the effectiveness of such systems as well. Later on it was revealed that although there are many a psycho social support systems established and functioning in Sri Lanka for the benefit of affected and vulnerable children but their lapses as well the lack of public awareness have caused crucial delays in deploying the prompt action in due time. Here, the intervention is to be from all the stake holders to perform an active role in keeping these support facilities fully functional. Through this study the intends to develop the knowledge on how to optimize the available issues facing in Sri Lanka through exploring the same in comparison to such systems in the UK.
