Assignment Task

Throughout the modules, we have discussed the importance of evidence-based practice. The Critical Review assessment is an opportunity to demonstrate how you are an evidence-based practitioner and can meet standard 1 of the Registered Nurses Standards for Practice (RNSFP) by critically evaluating mental health literature and research findings; and demonstrate how your exploration of the mental health literature assists you provide "comprehensive safe, quality practice to achieve agreed goals and outcomes that are responsive to the nursing needs of people" (standard 6.1 of the RNSFP, p. 5) by specifically informing your practice

To see what a critical integrative review looks like please see this example However, your Critical Review will look different because it is smaller, does not require the same level of critical appraisal, and requires the specific content below. Please note, most of these things below are not headings for your sections. The things in bold are headings for your paper. However, you will need to add and provide your own headings for your paper`s specific themes and content discussed
A short introduction paragraph. In APA 6th and 7th ed. formatting, the introduction paragraph is never labelled or given a heading such as "Introduction". Your introduction should start with a hook sentence, then broadly introduce your paper`s main topic/theme and provide the context for the rest of the paper. The paragraph should conclude by outlining the specific topics/ideas your paper will discuss (e.g. "This paper first discusses... then examines... etc.)so that your reader has a clear map and signposts to navigate their way through your paper. This helps the reader know what to expect.

Background

  • A brief introductory background to the controversy surrounding your chosen domain area and chosen research area. What is controversial about the area you`ve chosen to explore? What is the broad dissent in the literature and why? This provides context to the review so your reader understands your paper`s specific context. This section should be naturally leading your reader to your research question (ie. the research question shouldn`t come as a surprise to the reader)
  • Conclude this section with your Critical Review`s specific research question. You must use a PICO/PEO/SPIDER-type question or similar here. Remember that a question has a question mark at the end of it- it is not a statement. It is a question.
