Context

This assessment explores the evolution of a chosen sector within the tourism industry with particular focus on the identification and impact of a contemporary trend on the specific sector. This individual essay has been prescribed to appraise your ability to academically research and discuss major trends that will impact the travel and tourism industries and the evolution of the affected sector. You will be expected to not just look at the positive impact of this trend, but also to identify any concerns and criticism regarding its growing utilisation.

This assessment will help to prepare you to assess the viability of trends for their application value within a professional work environment. It will also help you to maintain currency in the increasingly changing hospitality and tourism industries.

Assessment

1. Identify a trend that is has impacted the travel and tourism industry. Conduct research into the trend to expand your knowledge on the trend and the impact it has made, or expected to make. Please be sure to include:

• A brief examination of key factors driving global trends within the travel and tourism industry in general.
•  A brief timeline of your chosen trend including key dates and stakeholders involved.
• A brief description of how your chosen trend is currently impacting the travel and tourism industry, identifying a minimum of three (3) context specific examples.
• Investigate and provide well-considered and plausible predictions of your chosen trend, for future impact.
• Identify and examine at least three (3) criticisms or concerns your chosen trend has for the travel and tourism industry. Please assess whether or not these concerns are valid and why?

2. Identify the sector, or sectors, of the travel and tourism industry that your chosen trend is causing the most impact on and explain the evolution of this sector, including significant changes over the last century that may have led to this trend. For example, the cruise sector and advancements to ship facilities.
