Question 1. Alex was the owner of Crooked River Golf Course and Resort. Alex put a sign at the beginning of the course that said he would give $250 to anyone that hit a hole-in-one on the third hole. That afternoon, Michelle hit a hole-in-one on the third hole. Later that night, Alex called Sam, the course manager, and told Sam to remove the sign and to install a new sign that offered $150 to the first person to shoot an under-par round.
Sam forget to remove the original sign and he never installed the new one. The next day Scott hit a hole-in-one on the third hole and Anne shot an under-par round. Alex refused to pay any of the players.
What are the rights of Michelle, Scott, and Anne against Alex? Your answers need to address whether or not Alex owes any/all of them anything (don`t worry about Sam), and explain why or why not. Explain in detail.
Question 2. Andy was a painter. On July 5, he made the following offer to Betty:
I offer to paint your house this summer for $1,000. I will paint all of the outside walls, doors, and trim. You will be responsible for choosing and purchasing the paint. If you want to accept, I need to receive your acceptance by US mail before July 15 @ 5:00 pm.
The next day, Betty wrote a letter saying she rejected the offer. On July 7, she put the rejection into the outgoing mailbox at the local US post office. On July 9, Betty changed her mind, and she sent Andy an email saying that she accepted Andy`s original offer. Andy read the email in the evening on July 9. On July 10, Andy received and read Betty`s rejection letter. By July 12, Andy decided that he did not really like Betty, and he refused to paint her house; he told Betty that he was revoking the offer. Betty brought an appropriate action against Andy for breach of contract.
Who will win and why? Explain in detail with relevant law.
