For the Week 4 & 5 Reflection, we will do something a little different from the previous weeks. Part 1: Read all the articles and for each write two bullet take aways. Use active reading skills as you go through the articles – take notes in the margins, ask questions, etc. Give yourself TIME to read deeply! Define Backwards Design in your own words and give an example of how you might use it in teaching. What are two strategies that you would use if you were teaching online next month? Why? (Hint: there is an article…) Don’t forget citations in your writing! Part 2: Next, do some research on your own about the topics for this week – Instructional design, backwards design, online learning. Find one scholarly article for EACH topic – this means refereed peer reviewed journal article (NOT wikipedia, no websites, no newspaper articles, no dissertations, no blogs, no newsletters). Find something that interests YOU related to these topics. Articles should be NO older than 2017. Use the AUM Library online to find your articles. (If you haven’t watched the video yet about how to use the AUM Library databases, here it is again: https://libguides.aum.edu/c.php?g=637570&p=4462916.) There are databases online for you to use in this search (and if used fully, they even tell you how to create citations for a bibliography or reference page). One database that I HIGHLY recommend is PsycInfo. The AUM library also has librarians to help you and they will do that online; however, you cannot do this last minute. Contact them for assistance early. Use the CHAT feature! Once you’ve found your articles, send a PDF (not a link) to me and I’ll approve or tell you to keep looking. No duplication! If I get two of the same, the first one gets to use it. Use the Discussion post in this folder to post your article title and journal so that no one gets the same one. The first one to email me with an acceptable article gets it. Then, you’ll need to provide several (2 or 3) take aways from each article. Think about the practical, how it might be used in the teaching that you are familiar with and/or with teaching in other disciplines. Again, use those active reading skills. Use this as an opportunity to explore articles that you might use later in your research paper! So, submit part 1 and part 2 in one Word document, appropriately labeled and organized and then also attach a PDF of both articles for Part 2.
